TOMEBOUND

Inspired by games like Slay the Spire, Tomebound takes place in the mind of an author dealing with the robbery of her book. Interact with characters to gain cards and take part in fights to learn about the story and see how you would have reacted as a player.

Concept: Tomebound is a narrative card game where the player have to craft his deck to fight different enemies.  The game takes place in the mind of Mia, an author in the Victorian Era. Each enemy is a portrayal of the way Mia reacted to the stealing of her book and each character represent way to approach a conflict. By interacting with the characters in the train, the player will gain new clues about the story of the game and new cards with effects depending on which characters he supported.

What I did: I took on many roles in this project, mainly Game Designer, System Designer, Narrative Designer, Assistant Programmer & Sound Designer. My role at the start was to establish the main components of the game in collaboration with the other members of our team. Be it establishing the core principles of the card game, the effects of the cards, the abilities of the enemies, write the core elements of the narrative of the game (characters, themes, endings...) or even using my experience as a Game Master to conduct play tests of our card game with real cards and try and immerse the play testers as much as possible to test the reliability of our systems. But one aspect I really enjoyed was to interact constantly with our artists to transmit our vision as best as possible by simply talking with them or by redacting scripts for certain scenes or character and ability sheets.
